Saving Templates in Genie 4.0

Genie 4.0

With Genie 4.0, you have two ways to save your templates: Save and Pull Magic. Knowing the difference will help you manage your templates without confusion.

Save vs. Pull Magic

Pulling Magic

Pulling magic happens when you click the Publish button and apply it to a Dubsado form. Then, when you open the public form as the owner, your form will show with all plugins applied and allow editing. However, when you save it, Genie creates a new template instead of updating the original.

Saving the Template

Using the Save option lets you store your template and reload it later from the Manage Templates screen. This works whether magic is applied or not.

Best Practices for Managing Templates

Follow these tips to keep your templates organized and avoid unnecessary duplication:

  1. Save Frequently – As you build your template, save it often to keep an up-to-date version.
  2. Use Pull Magic Thoughtfully – Pull magic (by clicking Publish on your template and pasting it inside the top-most HTML Block on your Dubsado form) occasionally as a backup or when you want to make your edits to your template live, but rely on saved templates for ongoing edits.
  3. Load from Manage Templates – Always load your saved template from the Manage Templates screen (second icon from the top on the far left menu bar) before making changes. This prevents Genie from treating it as a new template.
  4. Fixing Sync Issues – If the magic version of your template is better than the saved version, save it as a new template and delete the old one from Manage Templates.

By following these steps, you can manage your templates efficiently in Genie 4.0 and avoid unnecessary confusion or duplication.
